John Nobbs

John has worked in the Australian theatre and dance fields for over 30 years as a modern dancer, choreographer, dance teacher and designer and more recently as an actor, trainer, writer and designer with Ozfrank Theatre Film. He is the creator, with Jacqui Carroll, of the Suzuki-based actor training method, the Nobbs Suzuki Praxis (NSP).

John began his association with renowned Japanese theatre director, Tadashi Suzuki, in 1992 and is the only Australian actor ever invited to perform as guest artist with the Suzuki Company of Toga (SCOT). John performed with SCOT in Japan, Europe and North America from 1994 to 1999.

John has performed many roles within Ozfrank’s repertoire including: Oedipus in Oedipus Rex, Tajomaru in Rashomon, Roo in Doll Seventeen, Gertrude in Hamlet Stooged!, Macbeth in The Macbeth 99 Project, Motel Owner/Keeper of Memory in Motel of Memory, and MC Black Angel in Up Jumped the Devil.

John has written four books, A Devil Pokes the Actor (2010), Frankly Acting (2006) and The Insights we got from Tadashi Suzuki, the Shogun of Toga (2016) Jungz Anzwer to Job Unzipped (2018).
